BOWMORE - 30 years old - Vintage 1989 - Bottled 2021 - 45.3%
The Bowmore Distillery is located on the island of Islay , Scotland . It was founded in 1779 by Islay merchant John Simson before passing to the Mutter family, a local family of German descent, who remained the owners until 1925. Their many innovations included building their own steamboat to to bring barley and coal from the Continent and to deliver the whiskey to Glasgow. Since 1963 the distillery has been owned by Morrison Bowmore Distillers , which in 1994 was acquired by Suntory . The distillery site is home to the oldest whiskey maturing warehouse in the world, Vaults No.1 (“Caveaux No.1”), which date back to the founding of the distillery. Bowmore is one of the few distilleries to malt its own Islay barley, although this provides only a small proportion of the quantity required, so malted barley is also imported from the mainland.
This 30 year old “Annual Release” was distilled in 1989 and matured for 30 years in Sherry Hogshead and Bourbon casks . It's a celebration of Bowmore's rich, fruity and subtly smoky style. The design takes inspiration from the land that surrounds the Bowmore Distillery with detailed markings on the driftwood and fine polish of the sea glass, reflecting its enduring connection to Islay.
