Cognac CAMUS - Retour à Saint Aulaye - 43%
Camus is an independent, family-owned Cognac House located in the Borderies estate since 1863. It was founded by Jean-Baptiste Camus and is today managed by the fifth generation, Cyril Camus. At the end of the 19th century, Camus began to export his Cognac to England, securing his first foreign market. It continued to increase exports in the 20th century across Europe and further east, becoming the official cognac of the court of Tsar Nicholas II. Camus owns 180 hectares of land and owns the largest plots of all producers of the Cognac cru of Borderies. The eau-de-vie is made from a blend of common grape varieties: Ugni Blanc, Folle Blanche and Colombard.
Retour à Saint-Aulaye is the first Cognac from the last vineyards of Dordogne, bottled at 3,000 bottles. Made only from Colombard grapes grown on a small plot of 1.5 hectares in the village of Saint-Aulaye, Retour à Saint-Aulaye is the culmination of a decades-long project to rediscover and protect a unique terroir: although geographically part of the AOC Cognac since its first mapping, the historical tradition of the manufacture of Cognac in this area was on the verge of disappearing from this area. The synergy between the Maison de Camus and the town hall of Saint-Aulaye has enabled a meticulous selection of the terroirs to plant new vines and the revival of certain traditional practices, such as the use of wooden barrels from the local Double forest. After years of study, development and aging, the final blend of the 2016 vintage was born.
