The Penderyn Distillery, a gem of Wales, is nestled at the southern end of the prestigious Brecon Beacons National Park. For decades, the tradition of whisky distillation in Wales had disappeared, but in the late 1990s, a passionate group of friends decided to revive this ancient art by creating the first Welsh whisky distillery in over a century. Located in the charming historic village of Penderyn, the distillery benefits from a pure and fresh natural water source, an essential element for the exceptional quality of their whisky. The official launch of their flagship product took place on St. David's Day in 2004, in the presence of His Royal Highness Prince Charles, marking a historic moment for the Welsh whisky industry.
The Royal Welsh Whisky belongs to the famous "Icons of Wales" series, which celebrates the cultural and historical treasures of Wales through its premium spirits. This 6th edition, released on March 1, 2019, pays tribute to the Frongoch distillery near Bala, the cradle of original Welsh whisky closed for over a century. Known for hosting Queen Victoria's visit in 1891, this historic distillery is linked to a significant episode of Welsh heritage: on July 26, 1895, the Welsh Whisky Co. faced a warrant, thus giving birth to the Royal Welsh Whisky, a symbol of resilience and excellence.
