Springbank Distillery is one of two remaining historic distilleries in the prestigious Campbeltown region, located on the picturesque Kintyre Peninsula in southwest Scotland . It is renowned for the handcrafted production of characterful single malt whiskies under three iconic names: Springbank , Longrow and Hazelburn . Founded in 1828 by Archibald and Hugh Mitchell , Springbank quickly established itself as a pioneer, becoming Campbeltown's 14th official distillery. By 1934, only Springbank and Glen Scotia remained, and today the distillery remains in the loving hands of the founders' direct descendants.
One of the few Scottish distilleries to fully control the production chain on site, Springbank prides itself on perpetuating the traditional malting of barley, distillation and bottling within its walls. This artisanal rigor allows for the creation of three unique styles of Single Malt, enhanced by a judicious selection of casks and the typical maritime climate of Campbeltown. The parent company, JA Mitchell & Sons , also revived the Glengyle distillery in 2004. It is in this whisky mecca that the famous Single Malts of the Kilkerran range are born. It is worth noting that the renowned independent bottler Cadenhead's also belongs to the group, thus enriching the range of exceptional whiskies.
The vintage presented here, Kilkerran Heavily Peated Batch 9 , was released in 2023. It represents the highly anticipated ninth edition of this smoky and powerful series, renowned among thrill-seekers. This bottling benefits from full aging in Bourbon and Sherry casks , giving this Single Malt an intense aromatic richness, perfectly balanced between peaty notes, candied fruits and the vanilla sweetness of the wood.
