Domaine Génot-Boulanger - Chambolle-Musigny 2023
Established in Meursault since its creation in 1974, Domaine Génot-Boulanger is now managed by Aude and Guillaume Lavollée, who have profoundly renewed its viticultural approach by prioritizing soil respect, biodiversity, and the natural expression of the terroirs. The estate cultivates about 22 hectares of vines spread between the Côte de Nuits, Côte de Beaune, and Côte Chalonnaise, with around thirty different appellations. Its Chambolle-Musigny comes from the blend of two lieux-dits, Les Nazoires and Les Mombies, representing a total area of 0.76 hectares. These plots are located below the village, on the lower part of the slope, in a particularly interesting geological environment. The soils combine limestone rock with pebbles, gravel, and scree from the Chambolle valley, offering natural drainage favorable to the vine. This composition contributes to the finesse and aromatic delicacy characteristic of the appellation. The estate seeks here a particularly elegant expression of Pinot Noir, favoring fruit purity, freshness, and subtlety of the tannic structure.
The 2023 Chambolle-Musigny is made exclusively from Pinot Noir, grown according to organic farming principles, with certification obtained since the 2018 vintage. The harvest is entirely manual, allowing the selection of optimally ripe grapes while preserving their integrity. At the winery, the clusters are fully destemmed before a maceration of two to three weeks, during which fermentations occur spontaneously thanks to indigenous yeasts. The extraction is deliberately gentle, mainly relying on remontages and some measured pigeages to preserve the delicacy of the grape variety. The wine is then aged for twelve months in oak barrels, with a limited proportion of 10 to 15% new wood, followed by an additional six months in stainless steel tanks. This method refines the texture, preserves aromatic freshness, and limits the influence of the wood, before bottling without filtration. The 2023 vintage, characterized in Burgundy by a beautiful ripeness of the grapes and a generous fruit expression, offers an appealing balance between concentration, suppleness, and liveliness.
The 2023 Chambolle-Musigny stands out with a delicate and expressive bouquet, dominated by fresh red berries, notably strawberry, redcurrant, and cranberry. Upon aeration, subtle hints of violet, rose petal, and soft spices enrich this particularly refined aromatic palette. On the palate, the wine favors grace and fluidity rather than power, with a silky, airy, and remarkably precise texture. The tannins, very fine and delicately integrated, accompany a bright fruity expression, while fresh acidity brings energy and length. The finish extends on notes of crunchy red fruits, flowers, and a discreet mineral sensation, leaving an impression of purity and elegance. Already charming in its youth, this Chambolle-Musigny should gain complexity over the coming years, gradually developing nuances of undergrowth, black tea, and delicate spices. It will ideally accompany roasted pigeon, farm poultry with mushrooms, veal fillet, pink duck breast, or a porcini risotto.
