Château de Pibarnon Rosé 2024
Dominating the Mediterranean from its terraced slopes rising to 300 meters, Château de Pibarnon is one of Bandol's most prestigious estates. The vineyard forms a natural amphitheater open to the sea breezes. The Santonian blue marl soils and cool exposures result in slow and even ripening. The estate's style emphasizes vibrant fruit, saline acidity, and a caressing texture imbued with finesse.
The 2024 vintage highlights the refreshing character of Bandol rosé. The grapes are harvested at perfect ripeness and then pressed directly to obtain clear juice. Settling is minimal to preserve substance and precision. Fermentation takes place at controlled temperatures in stainless steel tanks. Short aging on fine lees refines the structure and polishes the tactile sensation. Bottling preserves a clear expression of the terroir and a maritime tension that is the hallmark of the estate.
The nose opens with aromas of orange blossom, pink grapefruit, and white peach. Aeration reveals wild strawberry, verbena, and a hint of fresh almond against a backdrop of damp stone. The palate is focused and fleshy. The lively attack glides into a heart of white fruits and juicy citrus, underpinned by a delicately iodine-tinged minerality. The texture, ample without being heavy, maintains a refreshing vibrancy. The finish is long and flavorful, with a hint of orange zest, grapefruit, and a touch of salinity that invites the next sip.
At the table, this rosé pairs well with tellines (small clams), oysters, and sea bream ceviche with citrus. It complements a light bouillabaisse, grilled sea bream with fennel, seared tuna with sesame seeds, and herb-roasted poultry. Summer vegetables, a carefully prepared Niçoise salad, pissaladière (a type of flatbread), and fresh sheep's cheese highlight its precision and length.
Grape varieties: Predominantly Mourvèdre, complemented by Cinsault
