Bois Brinçon Castle - Sandstone Land 2023
Historically rooted in Anjou, Château de Bois Brinçon produces single-plot vintages that showcase the diversity of the Loire's soils. The range of whites (100% Chenin) highlights distinctive terroirs, cultivated with moderate yields and manual harvests to preserve the purity of the fruit.
Terre de Grès comes from 1.50 ha of Chenin planted at 6,000 vines/ha on a sandstone soil with sponges on tuffeau chalk (Blaison sector). Yields are deliberately low (≈ 40 hl/ha); the bunches are hand-picked in sorts of golden, non-botrytized grapes. This selection aims for the clarity and mineral expression of the place. The whole bunches are pressed slowly (8–10 h); fermentation takes place in barrels. Aging follows in barrels of 1 to 3 wines, with stirring if necessary, in order to bring volume without masking the chalky structure. (Method confirmed over several vintages.)
Pale, bright color. Precise nose of white flowers, pear, citrus and a chalky touch. Straight and chiseled palate, texture finely coated by aging, carried by a tuffeau minerality and a saline freshness that stretches the finish. A pure and vibrant Chenin, gaining in complexity with a few years. (Profile in line with the spirit announced by the estate. Perfect as a gastronomic aperitif, with monkfish skewers with saffron, pan-fried scallops (Espelette pepper), white fish, creamed poultry and Loire goat cheeses. Serve around 8–10 °C. Consumption window: now and over 3–5 years.
Grape variety: 100% Chenin Blanc.
