Pleasure Castle - Ronceray 2023
The Château de Plaisance is located in Rochefort-sur-Loire, in the heart of Anjou in the Loire Valley. The estate, run organically since 1995 and biodynamically since 2008, was taken over from the Rochais family by Vanessa Cherruau in 2019. This 32-year-old young woman from Anjou cultivates 25 hectares of vines on the Chaume, Quarts de Chaume and Savennières terroirs. The Château de Plaisance is globally committed to protecting the environment and biodiversity, towards the most neutral carbon footprint possible.
The Ronceray cuvée is made from Chenin Blanc whose vines are around 35 years old, and grown on 3.75 hectares. The grapes are pressed slowly and cold, and fermentation takes place with indigenous yeasts. Malolactic fermentation is partial and the wine is aged in barrels, tuns and amphora for 12 months .
Under the impetus of several winegrowers of the appellation, Ronceray is the name given to the dry white wines produced under the Chaume Premier Cru and Quarts de Chaume Grand Cru appellations, in homage to the abbesses of the Ronceray abbey, owners of the vines in the 11th century.
