Catena Zapata - Malbec 2023
Bodega Catena Zapata is one of the most emblematic estates in Argentina, located in Mendoza, at the foot of the Andes mountain range. Founded at the beginning of the 20th century by the Catena family, it is now managed by Nicolás Catena Zapata, a pioneer in the global recognition of great Argentine wines. The estate is distinguished by its work on high-altitude vineyards, some located at over 1,000 meters, allowing the production of grapes with great concentration while maintaining freshness and balance. Catena Zapata's philosophy is based on a constant search for precision, with a scientific and parcel-based approach aimed at revealing the purest expression of the terroir.
The Malbec 2023 is the estate's emblematic expression, mainly made from Malbec grapes from different high-altitude plots in Mendoza. This grape variety, perfectly adapted to Andean conditions, develops a remarkable aromatic intensity here. The 2023 vintage offers a harmonious balance between fruit ripeness and natural freshness, thanks to favorable climatic conditions. The vinification is conducted with precision, followed by partial aging in oak barrels that bring structure and complexity without masking the fruit. This cuvée perfectly illustrates the Catena style: intensity, elegance, and accessibility.
On tasting, the wine reveals an expressive nose of blackberry, plum, and blackcurrant, accompanied by notes of violet, sweet spices, and a slight toasted touch. The palate is ample, generous, and structured, supported by supple and ripe tannins. The balance between richness and freshness gives the wine a beautiful harmony and a persistent finish. This Malbec will ideally accompany grilled meats, Argentine beef, or spicy dishes, and can also evolve for a few years in the cellar.
