LONGMORN - 18 years old - 48%
The Longmorn Distillery is located in the Speyside region of Scotland . It was founded in 1893 by John Duff, Charles Shirres and George Thomson. John Duff was the former director of the Glendronach Distillery and the Bon Accord Distillery in Aberdeen. He was the founder of the Glenlossie distillery, as well as being involved in unsuccessful distilleries in Cape Town and the United States. Five years later, he built another distillery near Longmorn: Benriach. In 1899 he was forced to sell to James Grant. In 1920, the young Masataka Taketsuru, one of the fathers of Japanese whiskey and founder of Nikka, worked briefly in the distillery. The stills of the two Nikka distilleries would be reproduced on those of Longmorn. In 1970 the Grant family and blender Hill Thompson merged with The Glenlivet & Glen Grant Distilleries Ltd to create The Glenlivet Distilleries Ltd. This was purchased by Chivas Brothers in 1978. In 2001, Chivas Brothers was bought by the French group Pernod Ricard.
