Planeta - Frappato 2019
Planeta is a wine producer located in Sicily. For five centuries and through 17 generations, the Planeta family has been involved in the agricultural evolution of the complex land of Sicily. In the 1900s, Vito Planeta transformed the small family winery located in Menfi into a large cooperative winery. Shortly after, it became a collective property and a model of local development. In 1985, the family decided to plant their first vineyard. Today they have vineyards and wineries in Menfi, Vittoria, Etna, Noto and Capo Milazzo (from west to east), with the aim of revealing their typicality through the search for native varieties, including those now forgotten, and the ability of the different terroirs to accommodate international varieties. They also plan to eventually build around each terroir a complete experience system made up of hospitality, cuisine, nature and culture.
This Frappato comes from the DOC Vittoria. Vittoria is one of those places steeped in history and the long agricultural tradition of the family. Domaine Dorilli was born from the renovation of the large bastide which stood in the center of an old landed property; they replanted the vines which had not been cultivated there for a long time, restored the cellar and the large rooms now reserved for hospitality. The vineyards of Dorilli and Mogli, entirely cultivated in Nero d'Avola and Frappato, extend over 34 hectares in these areas of fine, light red sand.
The grapes of Frappato are destemmed and go through a 7-day maceration of the skins. They are then pressed gently in a vertical basket press. The alcoholic and malolactic fermentation take place in stainless steel vats, where the wine matures until bottling in March.
