AULTMORE - 12 ans - 46%
The Aultmore Distillery is located north of Keith, in the Speyside region of Scotland. It was built in 1895 by the owner of Benrinnes, Alexander Edward. Just two years later the company was under the management of Oban & Aultmore Glenlivet Distilleries Ltd and production has been significantly increased with the addition of a steam engine to power the facilities and indeed, the distillery will use the 10-horsepower steam engine 24/7 for the next seventy years. After the Pattison Crisis (the economic crisis of the whisky industry), Aultmore closed its doors for several years. The distillery briefly reopened in 1903, but was forced to close again due to the barley shortage during World War I. In 1923, the distillery was acquired by John Dewar & Sons for £20,000 and two years later became part of Distillers Company Limited, a subsidiary of Diageo. In 1969, Aultmore switched from steam to electricity, the distillery increased its capacity and doubled its stills (from four to eight). The original steam engines are still on display at the distillery. In 1998, the distillery was sold to Dewars, a subsidiary of Bacardi, which owned Aultmore between 1923 and 1925.
Aultmore 12-Years-Old was released in 2014 as part of the Last Great Malts ranges from John Dewar & Sons. It is aged in barrels that have contained Bourbon.
