Serres Seques 2023 from Domaine Lajibe is a dry Jurançon of high precision, coming from steep slopes facing the Pyrenees, where the petit manseng deeply roots in soils mixing clay, sandstone, and pebbles. The estate, managed with organic and biodynamic farming, is committed to highly demanding viticulture, with very low yields and carefully hand-sorted harvests. This parcel-based approach highlights the unique character of Serres Seques, a ventilated and fresh terroir that allows harvesting grapes that are both ripe and taut. The 2023 vintage, bright but without excessive heat, favored a slow ripening of the berries, preserving vibrant acidity while bringing flesh and depth. At first glance, the wine presents itself in a shiny pale yellow robe with golden reflections, announcing a style that is both refined and concentrated. On the nose, Serres Seques 2023 reveals an intense and chiselled aromatic profile, where notes of fresh citrus, ripe lemon, and grapefruit blend with subtle exotic fruit nuances, pineapple, and kumquat. Floral touches of verbena, linden, and white flowers combine with hints of candied zest and fine spices, bringing great complexity without heaviness. On the palate, the attack is straight, supported by a sharp acidic framework that structures the wine and immediately highlights its salivating dimension. The texture, dense but perfectly controlled, stretches over a range of juicy white fruits, citrus zests, light honey, and warm stone. The very marked minerality gives relief and an almost chalky sensation, reinforcing the tension and verticality of the wine. The finish is long, precise, with a return of saline and lemony notes that naturally call for food and mark a great dry Jurançon of terroir. Serres Seques 2023 is clearly destined for gastronomy and will find superb pairings with noble grilled fish, ceviches or fish tartares, shellfish, herb-roasted free-range poultry, or lightly spiced Asian-inspired cuisine. It will also wonderfully accompany aged Basque sheep cheeses, balancing their richness with its tension and salinity. This age-worthy white can evolve for several years in the cellar, developing more honeyed, spicy, and smoky nuances while retaining a fresh structure. Clos des Millésimes Bordeaux offers this rare cuvée in a tight selection of terroir wines, highlighting the precise work of Domaine Lajibe and the uniqueness of great dry whites from Jurançon. For lovers of vibrant, classy, and deeply distinctive wines, Serres Seques 2023 stands as an essential reference, to be discovered now and followed over time.

Domaine Lajibe - Serres Seques 2023

Serres Sègues 2023 from Domaine Lajibe offers one of the purest, finest, and most vertical expressions of white wines from the Basque foothills. This vintage, born on the puddingstone, schist, and limestone soils of the Irouléguy appellation, presents a pale gold color with silvery reflections, announcing a wine that is both taut and luminous. The nose opens with precise aromas of ripe lemon, grapefruit, white peach, and fresh pear, complemented by delicate floral notes evoking hawthorn and acacia. In the background, a vibrant minerality reveals itself, reminiscent of wet stone and sun-warmed rock. The palate, straight and energetic, unfolds a pure fruit supported by a ripe acidity that gives the wine remarkable length. The finish, saline and elegant, leaves an impression of clarity and great freshness.

Upon aeration, Serres Sègues 2023 reveals more complex nuances of citrus zest, wild fennel, anise, and fresh almond, enriching the expression without ever making it heavy. The gentle vinification, carried out by slow pressing, followed by natural fermentations and precise aging in large oak casks and demi-muids, brings a silky texture while preserving the mineral tension. The body, ample yet slender, develops gradually, guided by an acidic backbone that keeps the wine in a vibrant and crystalline register. Here we find the signature of Domaine Lajibe: a style of great purity, depth, and clarity, where every detail seems adjusted to best express the terroir. The wine breathes precision and sincerity, offering a modern, slender, and refined interpretation of Basque white wine.

At the table, Serres Sègues 2023 shines with its gastronomic precision. It will ideally accompany noble grilled fish, trout or Arctic char, just-seared scallops, or shellfish. Its saline framework and bouquet of citrus also make it a perfect companion for seasonal vegetables, notably white asparagus, braised fennel, roasted root vegetables, or delicately herb-scented risottos. It will pair perfectly with young or lightly aged sheep’s milk cheeses, highlighting their milky softness. Served around 10 to 12 °C, it reveals all its tension, aromatic brightness, and elegance. Already remarkable for its energy and finesse, it has a beautiful aging potential of five to eight years, evolving towards nuances of light honey, beeswax, dried fruits, and herbal infusions. It is a great Basque white, deep, vibrant, and of exemplary purity, confirming Domaine Lajibe’s status among the region’s major signatures.
