Domaine de Lorient - Cornas 2022
Domaine de Lorient is located in Saint-Péray, in the northern Rhône . It was founded in 2014 by Laure Colombo (Jean-Luc Colombo's daughter) and her partner Dimitri Roulleau-Gallais . The couple is committed to a vision of a winegrowing farm combining organic viticulture, mixed farming and livestock farming. The farm covers approximately 5 hectares of vines , to which are added orchards, beehives, vegetable garden and animals (sheep, cows, chickens, etc.). The vineyard is certified organic with biodynamic and permaculture practices. All work is carried out by hand, from harvest to winery, with minimal use of sulfites and indigenous yeasts.
Cornas is made from Syrah , the vines of which are around thirty years old and produced by mass selection. Vinification is carried out in 30-hectoliter concrete vats and maceration lasts 2 to 3 weeks. The free-run juice and a small amount of pressed juice are directly transferred to barrels and then aged for 15 to 18 months in 228- or 400-liter barrels where malolactic fermentation takes place until the following spring. The wine is then returned to concrete vats and bottled before the summer.
Grape variety: 100% Syrah
"The 2022 Cornas from Domaine de Lorient reveals an intense nose, marked by ripe black fruits, pepper, a touch of garrigue and elegant smoky notes. On the palate, the structure is straight, the tannins fine and melted, supporting a dense and fresh substance."
