Andean Horse 2020
Cheval des Andes is located in the Mendoza region of Argentina . It is the result of a joint venture between Château Cheval Blanc de Saint-Émilion in Bordeaux and Terrazas de Los Andes in Argentina. Cheval des Andes produces its wines from two wholly owned high-altitude vineyards: Las Compuertas in Luján de Cuyo, the oldest and most classic wine region in Mendoza, and La Consulta, in the distinguished Uco Valley region further south. Cheval des Andes owns 50 hectares of vineyards. The vineyards differ in altitude, topography and soil composition. The winery has launched a biodiversity project, planting flowers and other plants that attract birds and bees, natural predators of vine pests. The team has two organic vegetable gardens and a livestock farm with sheep, horses, cows, llamas and alpacas.
The vines are carefully observed plot by plot and berry samples are tasted daily to determine the precise date of the harvest. The grapes are harvested by hand during the first three weeks of April and vinified separately by sub-plot. After malolactic fermentation, the winemaking teams of Cheval des Andes and Château Cheval Blanc come together to carry out the “pre-assemblage” which forms the basis of the final blend.
Cheval des Andes 2020 is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon (49%), Malbec (49%) and Petit Verdot (2%) . The wine is aged for 16 to 18 months in a selection of new and second-hand Bordeaux barrels made from French and Austrian oak.
