Glen Scotia - 11 years old - Campbeltown Festival 2023 - Peated White Port Finish - 54.7%
Glen Scotia is an iconic distillery located in Campbeltown, on the Kintyre peninsula in Scotland. Founded in 1832 under the name Scotia by Mayor James Stewart and Provost John Galbraith, it has played a major historical role in the Scottish whisky industry. Initially run by its founders until 1895, it then joined in 1919 the "West Highland Malt Distilleries" consortium, grouping six Campbeltown distilleries to pool costs and avoid closure. In 1924, the distillery was acquired by Duncan MacCallum, founder of Glen Nevis, before temporarily closing in 1928 and reopening in 1930. Tragically, MacCallum committed suicide that same year after losing his savings in a scam, and the distillery was bought by Bloch Brothers who added the prefix "Glen". According to local legend, MacCallum's ghost still haunts the premises, adding a fascinating mystery to its history. Bloch Brothers kept Glen Scotia until 1954, after which it changed hands several times. Closed between 1984 and 1989, it reopened thanks to Gibson International. In 1994, Glen Catrine Bonded Warehouse Ltd acquired Gibson's shares, but the distillery was once again put on hold. Since 1999, Glen Scotia has returned to full production. In 2014, the Loch Lomond group bought Glen Scotia, injecting significant investments: increasing production capacity, creating new warehouses, and opening a visitor center. This revitalization has allowed the brand to establish itself as a key pillar of Campbeltown whiskies, recognized for its authentic and refined expressions.
This exclusive limited edition was created especially for the Campbeltown Malts Festival 2023. This exceptional Single Malt, aged 11 years, benefited from a unique maturation of 12 months in peated white port casks, which brings a rich and elegant aromatic complexity, subtly combining the fruity notes of white port with the smoky depth characteristic of peated malt.
Slightly peated for a perfect balance between finesse and character.
