On the Tibetan plateau , in the shadow of the Ta'er monastery, the Huzhujinquan Distillery gives life to Tibet's first Single Malt : Jiu Hai Bu Gan . Made from world famous Tibetan barley, malted, crushed and fermented by the action of native yeasts carefully kept in the shadow of the monastery, it is with the softest pure water flowing from the rivers of the Himalaya that this whiskey is elaborated, distilled and aged.
The distillation of malted barley has been practiced in Tibet for over 400 years. This thousand-year-old tradition ensured that the alcohol leaving the still remained limpid and transparent until the final bottle, because crystalline alcohol was the symbol of purity. To achieve this goal, the distillate was stored in a porcelain amphora named “Jiu Hai” before being bottled. This very slow maturation occurring over the years of aging through the walls of kaolin amphorae, helped to soften and round the alcohol, giving it an almost creamy taste with a hint of citrus freshness. Today, the Huzhujinquan distillery continues this tradition and, depending on the product line, the alcohol is still stored between 3 and 50 years in "Jiu Hai", the porcelain amphorae.
Jiu Hai Bu Gan 12 years old is made from a double distillation of winter barley harvested at 2,500 meters on the Tibetan plateau at the end of peony flowering (meido). It is the result of aging for 9 to 30 years in porcelain amphora , followed by 38 months in ex-Bourbon American barrels and French oak barrels.
