Domaine Coche-Dury - Meursault 2020
Coche-Dury is located in Meursault, in the Côte de Beaune in Burgundy . The Coche-Dury estate was created in 1923 by Léon Coche, a winemaker. His son Georges succeeded him, then Jean-François, who settled in 1973. Raphaël Coche joined the family business in 1997. Since 2010, Jean-François has entrusted the day-to-day management of the estate to his son and his daughter-in-law, Raphaël and Charline. Today, in addition to farms in Meursault, the family owns vineyards in Puligny-Montrachet, Auxey-Duresses, Monthelie, Volnay and in the Corton Grand Cru vineyard. In total, the Coche-Dury estate represents just over 10 hectares, of which about half is in Meursault itself. The trading activity represents 15% of the production, in purchase of grapes only. Not with the aim of increasing the volume produced, but to compensate for climatic disasters. More than half of Domaine Coche-Dury's wines are marketed for export and the waiting list to be part of the new recipients is 30 years.
Raphaël Coche favors low yields in order to obtain concentrated grapes that bring structure to the wine. The vinification is traditional; after gentle pressing and settling, the wines are fermented in barrels. For the best Crus, half of the barrel park is renewed each year. The wines receive regular stirring during their aging of around 20 months and are racked twice before being bottled by hand, with a machine called a “two-beaked goat”.
