Château HAUT BRION 1992

Château Haut-Brion is located in Pessac-Léognan in the Bordeaux wine region. It is notable as being the only First Growth in Graves. The vineyards were established in the 1530s by the Pontac family, changing hands several times throughout the ensuing centuries. Historical evidence shows that Haut-Brion was drunk by King Charles II and Thomas Jefferson, and the famous London diarist Samuel Pepys was also a fan of the wine. The estate was acquired by American Francophile Clarence Dillon in 1935 and has been managed by the family since.

The 1992 vintage of Château Haut-Brion is a blend of Merlot Noir (58%), Cabernet Sauvignon (37%) and Cabernet Franc (5%). The winter was dry followed by a very hot and also dry May. On the other hand, June was very wet but the harvest in prospect was important in spite of the millerandage and the coulure. July and August were hot months, it rained a lot in August which led to a worrying sanitary condition (mildew and botrytis). During the harvest, rainy days alternated with dry days and the wines were saved from bad weather thanks to the meticulous work of the winegrowers and winemakers. Haut-Brion 1992 is characterised by lots of fruit and good tannic concentration.

Grape varieties: 58% Merlot Noir, 37% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5% Cabernet Franc
