KELLER - Pius Beerenauslese (Liqueur) 2013 Pius is made from late-harvested and botrytized grapes (the blend varies by vintage, but typically includes Rieslaner, Sylvaner, Pinot Gris, and Scheurebe from various vineyards). About This Winery: In 2001, Klaus-Peter Keller and his wife Julia took over his family's property, Weingut Keller. The Keller family has a keen interest in the history of local vineyards, and many of their vineyards are notable terroir parcels, including the Grosses Gewäch vineyards. Klaus-Peter's parents, known for producing some of the best wines in the Rheinhessen region, laid a solid foundation for the estate's future through work on soil analysis and clonal selection. Today, Klaus-Peter has taken the estate to an even higher level and continues to emphasize the importance of terroir and regional history. He is quick to point out that "great wine would not be possible here if it weren't for these great limestone soils. Someone just has to remember the old tradition and make good wine."

Pius is culled from late-harvest and botrytis-infected grapes (the blend varies according to vintage, but usually includes Rieslaner, Sylvaner, Pinot Gris, and Scheurebe from various vineyard sites) that produce luscious honeyed apricot flavors, sprinkled with spice and balanced by Keller's hallmark, stony acidity.

About this wine producer: In 2001, Klaus-Peter Keller and his wife, Julia, took over his family’s estate, Weingut Keller. The Keller family has a strong interest in the history of the local vineyards, and many of their vineyards are previously forgotten plots of excellent terroir, including Grosses Gewächs vineyards.
