Domaine Saint Préfert - Terroir de Saint Préfert Philia 2023
In the heart of Châteauneuf du Pape, Domaine Saint Préfert has established itself as one of the most inspired signatures of the southern Rhône. Isabel Ferrando pursues a very precise vision of the terroir here, based on controlled yields, living soils, and perfectly mastered ripeness. The vineyard is worked in an artisanal spirit, with constant attention to freshness despite the southern sun. The vinifications favor indigenous yeasts, gentle extractions, and a measured use of wood. Terroir de Saint Préfert produces identity-driven cuvées, where purity is sought more than showmanship. Philia 2023 is the most immediate and luminous facet of this.
Philia 2023 is born from selected parcels on rolled pebbles, sands, and clays, offering the wine depth and indulgence without heaviness. The harvest is done by hand, early in the morning, to preserve the aromatic precision of the berries. A portion of whole clusters is kept to bring energy, floral notes, and spicy tension. Fermentations take place in vats, in a spirit of infusion rather than massive extraction. Aging, in vats and neutral containers, fully respects the fruit and the clarity of the terroir. The result is a modern southern red, ample yet digestible, designed both for immediate pleasure and for a few years of aging.
On the nose, the wine opens with ripe strawberry, raspberry, and red cherry, accompanied by notes of peony, blood orange, and garrigue. On the palate, the attack is juicy and fluid, with vibrant fruit supported by fine and supple tannins. The mid-palate blends red berries, soft spices, a hint of licorice, and a touch of dried herbs, in a caressing texture. The finish, long and fragrant, leaves an impression of Mediterranean freshness, between citrus zest, thyme, and a discreet salinity. At the table, Philia 2023 perfectly accompanies roasted poultry, herb lamb, grilled dishes, Mediterranean cuisine, or vegetarian dishes centered around roasted vegetables.
