Maison Sichel is a Bordeaux wine merchant . In 1883, Sichel moved from the United Kingdom to Bordeaux and set up an office at 19 Quai de Bacalan in the legendary Chartrons district, the historic center of Bordeaux wine merchant activity. At the time, the company was an acquisitions office, purchasing wines for Sichel companies in Mainz, London, and New York. The company has undergone a dramatic transformation over the past 50 years, with the purchase of a winemaking facility, the construction of a bottling plant, the acquisition of three estates and a wine merchant, and the construction of a Grands Crus vault. The Sichel family owns Château Palmer, Château Angludet, Château de Fieuzal, and more.
In 1970, Peter Sichel fell in love with the Cucugnan Valley in the Hautes Corbières . He bought Château Trillol and produced delicious, structured wines there for nearly 50 years. Today, his grandson Alexander Sichel has taken over the reins of the estate with the aim of producing great wines: he has reduced the size of the vineyard to keep only the best plots, uses new winemaking techniques and initiated an environmental approach that will lead to organic and biodynamic certification. The name Château Trillol has since been changed to Domaine Peter Sichel . The vineyard is located between 250 and 500 meters above sea level. The 20 hectares of old vines are divided into 39 plots and the cool mountain climate allows for gradual and optimal ripening of the grapes.
This vintage is made from old Roussanne vines with an average age of 80 years. The vines are grown at an altitude of 500 meters on a terroir of clay and marl. After pressing, fermentation begins with indigenous yeasts. The wine is aged for 9 months in amphorae and 450-liter barrels .
