Domaine HUET - Le Clos du Bourg - Demi Sec 2020
Domaine Huet, located in Vouvray in the Loire Valley, is one of the most emblematic estates of the Vouvray appellation. Founded in 1928 by Victor Huet and Gaston Huet, the estate has established itself as one of the greatest interpreters of Ligérien Chenin Blanc. Today owned by Anthony Hwang, the vineyard covers about 35 hectares spread over three historic terroirs: Le Haut-Lieu, Le Mont, and the famous Clos du Bourg. For many years, the vines have been managed using biodynamic agriculture, a demanding approach that allows the precise expression of the diversity of clay-limestone soils rich in tuffeau characteristic of Vouvray. Thanks to this meticulous work in the vineyard and cellar, the estate's wines are recognized for their purity, depth, and remarkable aging potential.
The Vouvray Clos du Bourg Demi-Sec 2020 comes from a historic walled vineyard located on a plateau overlooking the Loire Valley. This emblematic terroir, composed of clays resting on tuffeau chalk, produces powerful, structured wines particularly suited for aging. The grapes, hand-harvested at perfect ripeness, are vinified with precision to preserve the full expression of Chenin Blanc. Fermentation is carried out slowly with indigenous yeasts, then the wine is aged for several months in tanks and demi-muids to develop its aromatic complexity while maintaining the purity of the fruit. The 2020 vintage, marked by favorable climatic conditions and beautiful grape maturity, offers here a particularly successful balance between natural richness and mineral tension.
On the palate, this demi-sec Vouvray reveals an intense and elegant nose dominated by aromas of ripe peach, quince, delicate honey, and white flowers, with subtle notes of candied citrus and soft spices. The mouth is ample, silky, and perfectly balanced between sweetness and freshness. The natural tension of Chenin Blanc brings energy and precision while the terroir's minerality provides depth and length. The long, saline finish highlights the elegance and complexity of this great Vouvray wine. It will ideally accompany lightly spiced Asian cuisine, poultry in sauce, foie gras, or certain aged cheeses. Thanks to its structure and balance, this wine also has excellent aging potential, capable of exceeding fifteen years.
