Torbreck - Cuvée Juveniles 2019

Torbreck Vinters is located in the Barossa Valley , Australia . The name comes from a forest in Scotland where David Powell , its founder, once worked as a lumberjack. He started out as a winemaker with Robert "Rocky" O'Callaghan at Rockford Wines and discovered a few sections of old vines that had been abandoned by their owners because the yields were deemed too low to pay for their upkeep. Inspired to start his own estate, but lacking sufficient capital for an outright purchase of grapes, David Powell founded Torbreck Vinters in 1994 with grapes originally obtained through sharecropping. It has since developed its own wine farms, but much of its fruit still comes from select growers throughout the Barossa Valley. In 2002 Torbreck was purchased by Australian businessman Jack Cowin due to financial pressures placed on Powell by a divorce settlement. In 2008, David Powell bought the estate in partnership with Peter Kight (the owner of Quivira Winery in the Dry Creek Valley of Sonoma County, California) but in 2013, the latter forced David Powell to leave the winery and became the owner of the estate.

Cuvée Juveniles 2019 is a blend of Grenache (72%), Mataro (23%) and Shiraz (5%) . The grapes come from several vineyards whose age of the vines varies from 40 to 150 years. Vinification and aging take place in stainless steel vats .
