Château KEFRAYA 2006
Chateau Kefraya is located in the West of the Bekaa Valley, Lebanon. It has belonged to the Bustros family for several generations. The castle was built from 1946 on an artificial hill used by the Romans centuries ago to observe the movements of their troops. The founder and visionary Michel de Bustros undertook important works to establish the vineyards of Château Kefraya on these magnificent hillsides. The first vines were planted in 1951 and 1979, and despite the Lebanese civil war (1975-1990), Château Kefraya began to produce its own wine with its own grapes grown in its own vineyard and vinified in its own cellar. The vineyard extends over 300 hectares of terraced hillsides, 1,000 meters above the Mediterranean Sea, on the foothills of Mount Barouk in the Bekaa valley. The vines benefit from exceptional sunshine without irrigation. In addition to the diversity of the soils (clay-limestone, sandy and gravelly), Château Kefraya uses a wide range of grape varieties in its blends, notably Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, Chardonnay and Viognier as well as more unusual grape varieties such as Carménère, Marselan and Muscat à Petits Grains. A sustainable wine policy allows the vines to flourish, while respecting the expression of the terroir.
Château Kefraya Rouge is a blend of the best grapes of Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon and Mourvèdre, whose average age is thirty years. Aging lasts 18 to 24 months in French oak barrels.
