Domaine des Roches - Alain and Jérôme Lenoir 2018
The Domaine des Roches is a historic and exclusive address in Chinon, led by Alain and Jérôme Lenoir, pioneering figures of natural wine in the Loire. Established since the 1980s on the Chinon terroirs, the Lenoir brothers early on chose a free and demanding path, based on peasant viticulture, without artifices, respectful of the soils and the grapes. Their work, long on the margins of classic circuits, has given birth to wines that have become cult favorites for lovers of sincerity and authenticity. The estate favors the expression of place and vintage, with a philosophy where time and patience play a central role. Each bottle tells a story of Chinon, nature, and convictions.
The Domaine des Roches 2018 is a red Chinon made from Cabernet Franc, crafted in a decidedly natural spirit. The 2018 vintage, generous and sunny, offers ripe material while maintaining the balance dear to the estate. Vinification is done without superfluous inputs, aiming to preserve the truest expression of the grape and terroir. This wine continues the Lenoir style, combining frankness, depth, and drinkability. 2018 marks a more immediate and gourmand reading of the estate, while retaining the capacity to evolve harmoniously over time.
On tasting, this Chinon 2018 charms with its expressive fruitiness and lively character. The nose reveals aromas of ripe red and black fruits, accompanied by noble vegetal notes and a slightly spicy touch. The palate is supple, juicy, and balanced, supported by fine tannins and a natural freshness that makes the wine very digestible. The whole is gourmand without heaviness, with a clean and harmonious finish. This wine pairs perfectly with charcuterie, grilled meats, simple regional cuisine, or flavorful vegetarian dishes. An authentic natural Chinon, both accessible and deeply identity-driven.
Grape variety: 100% Cabernet Franc
