Clos Marsalette 2022
Located in Martillac, in the heart of the Pessac-Léognan appellation, Clos Marsalette belongs to Stephan von Neipperg , also owner of Château Canon-La-Gaffelière in Saint-Émilion. Under his leadership, the estate has established itself as one of the most consistent and elegant vintages on the Bordeaux Left Bank, combining modern winemaking with respect for the terroir. The deep gravel soils mixed with sand and clay give this wine a refined structure, vibrant fruit and a mineral tension typical of the great wines of the appellation.
The 2022 vintage was exceptional in Bordeaux: a hot and dry summer balanced by cool nights, allowing for perfect ripeness and superb concentration. The harvest, carried out by hand, yielded grapes of exemplary purity. Vinification took place in stainless steel and concrete vats, followed by maturation in French oak barrels (around 40% of which were new) to refine the texture and enrich the aromatic complexity. The result is a wine that is charming, dense, and remarkably precise.
In the glass, the color is a deep garnet with purple highlights. The nose displays intense aromas of ripe black fruits —blackcurrant, blackberry and cherry—accompanied by notes of graphite , cedar , fine smoke and a touch of sweet spices . On the palate, the attack is ample and velvety, the heart of the palate silky and structured by fine and perfectly integrated tannins. The finish, long and fresh, stretches on nuances of blond tobacco and lightly spiced fruits, with a straightforward elegance typical of the Pessac-Léognan terroir.
At the table, Clos Marsalette 2022 pairs magnificently with roast duck breast , grilled veal chop , roast pigeon , or lamb with garden herbs . It can be enjoyed today after an hour of decanting, but will reach its peak by 2030 to 2040 , gaining even more complexity and harmony.
Grape varieties: 55% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40% Merlot, 5% Cabernet Franc.
