Château FONRÉAUD 2016
Château Fonréaud is located in Listrac-Médoc , in the Bordeaux region. It belongs to Vignobles Chanfreau . In 1932, Château Fonréaud was classified as Cru Bourgeois Supérieur , a classification renewed in 2003. Since 2008, Château Fonréaud wines have been recognized as Crus Bourgeois every year. In 1962, Léo Chanfreau, a winemaker in Algeria, returned with his family to mainland France. He then visited many properties before purchasing Château de Fonréaud. The vineyard now has only 17 hectares of very old vines and the wooden vats of the vat room were doomed to destruction. He replanted the vines, built the concrete vat room that is still in use today, and undertook major work on the château. Victim of a tractor accident in 1970, he left his work unfinished. The estate remains family-run, with Marcel and then Jean Chanfreau taking over. In 1983, Château Fonréaud was recognized by the profession by becoming a member of the Bordeaux Wine Academy and the exclusive circle of the Union des Grands Crus de Bordeaux. In 1985, work began on finishing the château and optimizing the vineyard. Thanks to the reconstitution of a white vineyard, 1991 was the vintage of the renaissance of the Château Fonréaud Swan brand, created by the Leblanc de Mauvezin family a century earlier. The vineyard is managed using sustainable viticulture with High Environmental Value (HVE) certification.

"Château Fonréaud 2016 opens with aromas of ripe black fruits, cedar, and blond tobacco. The palate is straightforward and structured, but not excessive, with a lovely freshness and a slightly toasted finish."
