Domaine Fumey Chatelain - Vin Jaune 2017
Domaine Fumey Chatelain is located in Montigny-lès-Arsures, in the Jura region . It was founded by Raphaël Fumey and Adeline Chatelain in 1986. At the time, they started with 56 ares of vines, producing and selling grapes. In the spring of 1991, due to a terrible frost, they had so few grapes left that they decided to vinify it themselves and thus signed their first vintage. They expanded the operation by borrowing unused cellars and barrels from other winemakers before establishing themselves in a ruined farmhouse. Today, the estate has 17 hectares of vines and their son, Marin , after having vinified several times in Australia, New Zealand and South Africa, joined them. The estate is currently using sustainable farming methods but intends to begin a conversion to organic farming in the coming years.
The 2017 Vin Jaune is made from Savagnin grapes from the Aux Barbi, Savagny and La Vasée vineyards, whose terroir is composed of blue marl. The grapes are pressed directly and fermentation occurs spontaneously with indigenous yeasts. Aging lasts 6 years under a veil , in 228-litre barrels.
Grape variety: 100% Savagnin
