Planeta - Frappato 2021
Planeta is a wine producer located in Sicily . For five centuries and across 17 generations, the Planeta family has been involved in the agricultural evolution of Sicily's complex land. In the 1900s, Vito Planeta transformed the small family winery located in Menfi into a large cooperative winery. Shortly after, it became collectively owned and a model of local development. In 1985, the family decided to plant its first vineyard. Today, they own vineyards and wineries in Menfi, Vittoria, Etna, Noto, and Capo Milazzo (from west to east), with the aim of revealing their typicality through the research of indigenous varieties, including those now forgotten, and the suitability of the different terroirs to host international varieties. They also plan to eventually build around each terroir a complete experience system composed of hospitality, cuisine, nature, and culture.
This Frappato comes from the DOC Vittoria . Vittoria is one of those places steeped in history and the family's long agricultural tradition. Domaine Dorilli was born from the renovation of the large country house that stood in the center of an old landed estate; they replanted the vines that had not been cultivated there for a long time, restored the winery and the large rooms now reserved for hospitality. The Dorilli and Mogli vineyards, entirely cultivated with Nero d'Avola and Frappato, extend over 34 hectares on these areas of fine, light red sand.
Frappato grapes are destemmed and macerated on the skins for 7 days. They are then gently pressed in a vertical press. Alcoholic and malolactic fermentation take place in stainless steel tanks , where the wine ages until bottling in March.
Grape variety: 100% Frappato
"This 2021 Frappato has the quiet charm of wines that don't try to overdo it. Fluid, silky, and delicately expressive, it offers a supple and thirst-quenching palate, perfect for pairing with simple, sunny cuisine."
