Clos Dufourg - Margaux 2019
Christophe purchased new plots of land to create Clos Dufourg : a small 4.5-hectare cru produced from several types of terroir. The construction of a new winery allows him to fully experiment with different winemaking and aging methods using several types of containers: barrels, amphorae, concrete vats, jars, etc.
Clos Dufourg is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Petit Verdot, Malbec, and Cabernet Franc . The Merlot undergoes a long fermentation process; it is aged in 400-liter barrels, ensuring minimal contact with air for up to 24 months. The Cabernet Franc is vinified using carbonic maceration and is aged with 10% new oak. The Petit Verdot is aged in clay amphorae, resulting in a more oxygenated wine. The Cabernet Sauvignon is aged in 225-liter barrels submerged in water to control oxidation; adjustment is made based on tannin levels. The Malbec is harvested at maturity and aged in barrels. Only 7,000 bottles were produced for this first 2019 vintage.
Grape varieties: Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot, Malbec
"A laboratory-made Margaux, in the noblest sense of the term. Clos Dufourg 2019 strikes a balance between Bordeaux tradition and experimental winemaking."
