Château SUDUIRAUT 1983
Château Suduiraut is located in Preignac, in the Sauternes appellation, in the Bordeaux wine region. It was classified as Premier Cru Classé in 1855. The estate took the name of Suduiraut in 1580, following the marriage of Nicole d'Allard to Léonard de Suduiraut. AXA Millésimes bought Château Suduiraut in 1992. Certified High Environmental Value (HVE), the estate is made up of 91 hectares of vines on sandy-clay gravel soil. The stones capture the heat of the sun and thus allow the grapes to reach maturity more quickly. The proximity of the vineyard to the Ciron and the Garonne provides ideal conditions for excellent development of the noble rot of Botrytis Cinerea . The development of Botrytis Cinerea is very random and does not affect all the vines at the same time. This requires careful and exclusively manual picking by part of the bunch to follow the evolution of over-ripening. The harvests are staggered over time, up to 5 times between the end of September and mid-November.
Château Suduiraut is a blend of Sémillon and Sauvignon Blanc . In the cellar, pressing is long and delicate to extract the richest juices, before vinification and slow aging in oak barrels (35% in new barrels, 35% in wine barrels and 30% in old barrels). ), where the wine will remain for 20 months . The different batches are then selected for assembly. The 1983 vintage in Sauternes is legendary . The growing season began with a moderately cold winter followed by a cool, wet spring. Although the spring warmth arrived late, bud break and flowering were a success. July saw scorching temperatures and the August rains were a welcome relief. Temperatures, as well as precipitation, decreased towards the end of the month and conditions pointed towards optimal autumn. Although initially slow to arrive, the very significant noble rot eventually showed itself, as foggy mornings and sunny afternoons allowed the grapes to botrytis steadily concentrating the fruit.
