Château POTENSAC 1988
Château Potensac is located in the Médoc region of Bordeaux . It was traditionally passed down through the female line until the current owner , Jean-Hubert Delon, inherited it from his paternal grandmother, Georgette Liquard. The Delon family owns two other Bordeaux estates, Château Nénin in Pomerol and the prestigious Second Growth Château Léoville-Las Cases in Saint-Julien. Château Potensac was one of nine producers to achieve Cru Bourgeois Exceptionnel status in the 2003 reclassification.
Château Potensac is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Cabernet Franc. The 1988 vintage for Bordeaux was generally good. A cold, wet winter gave way to an equally unsettled spring, making rot a problem. Although temperatures fortunately never dropped low enough for frost damage to occur, the soggy, wet weather was enough to hamper both bud break and flowering. The summer fortunately brought warm, dry weather, with August experiencing particularly high temperatures, and conditions looked idyllic as harvest approached. Despite the various challenges throughout the growing season, the resulting wines were surprisingly high in quality.
