Domaine de Pergaud - Brézème Vieille Serine - Eric Texier 2016

Eric Texier 's estate is located in Charnay, in the Rhône Valley. Eric Texier is a former nuclear engineer who converted to wine, starting with an internship at Guffens in 1993. He vinified his first wines in 1995. The estate is established on two very distinct terroirs: Brézème in the Drôme (left bank of the Rhône) and in the Ouvèze valley in Ardèche (right bank), today operated by his son Martin, who in turn settled there. These two sectors are well identified on the Rhône wine maps but almost forgotten because of their confidential surface area and their geographical isolation. The 12-hectare estate has been conducted in certified organic farming from the outset, and the farming methods are directed towards agroecology. The winemaking style is traditional and very minimalist: native yeasts, maceration in whole bunches, no sulphiting, no inputs, no filtration, no fining.

This cuvée is made from Syrah over 70 years old, locally called Serine. The grapes come from a hillside of limestone marls in the Brézème vineyard. The maceration is carried out in whole bunches for 8 to 10 days. Fermentation takes place with indigenous yeasts in wooden vats. The aging lasts 36 to 48 months in tuns on the lees .
