BOTRAN - 18 years - New bottle - 40% ABV
Botran rums are produced in Guatemala, in the volcanic region of Retalhuleu, in the south of the country, benefiting from an exceptional terroir known for the unique quality of its soils. The Botran distillery is one of the few to hold an AOC (Appellation d’Origine Contrôlée) for rum, a distinction it shares only with Martinique. The awarding of this prestigious AOC in 2013 highlights the historic commitment and major influence of the Botran family in promoting and gaining international recognition for the Guatemalan terroir.
Botran rums are crafted using the traditional Guatemalan technique, an artisanal method that begins with the production of virgin sugarcane honey. This step involves concentrating fresh juices by gentle evaporation of water, through a carefully controlled heating process. Fermentation is carried out with natural yeasts extracted from pineapples, contributing to the aromatic complexity of the rums. Distillation takes place in column stills, ensuring purity and optimal concentration of aromas. Afterwards, the distillates are transferred for aging at altitude, at 2,300 meters, in cellars benefiting from a cool and stable climate, ideal for slow and thoughtful maturation.
The aging process is based on a method inspired by the ancestral Solera system, in which the rums are gradually blended in different casks: ex-American Bourbon (200 and 225 liters re-toasted), Oloroso Sherry (500 and 600 liters), and Port (250 liters). This combination of carefully selected casks brings an incomparable aromatic richness, with perfectly balanced woody, fruity, and spicy notes.
The Botran 18 years is a delicate blend of rums aged in Solera between 5 to 18 years, offering a complex, round, and elegant profile, ideal for lovers of refined and powerful rums.
